Artistic Homes Combine Modern Comfort and Creative Design

Turner’s latest residential offering, art.haus, redefines urban apartment living by blending contemporary comforts with an artful design philosophy.

Currently under construction on the city fringe, art.haus offers 27 unique floor plans in one, two, and three-bedroom designs, ranging between 55sqm to 191sqm in the heart of Turner.

The focus of the design is on spacious interiors, abundant natural light, functional layouts, and building a sense of community.

Lead architect Nathan Judd, interior design Studio + You, and the curators and landscape architects at SPACELAB were the creatives behind art.haus and are proud to bring these unique apartments to the market.

“art.haus is the result of all I learned across three decades of working within Canberra’s evolving apartment lifestyle choice,” explained David Shearer, Director of Projects at SPACELAB STUDIO.

“I like how pure, simple, and focused it is. art.haus is just about living each day well. Each design celebrates its location, whether that’s a lively and active interface with people and movement of city life, or a quiet elevated view.”

Location and accessibility

Turner is one of Canberra’s most sought-after locales adjacent to the buzzing Braddon entertainment precinct and the city.  The Elouera Street light rail station is only 20 metres from art.haus’ front door. 

The surrounding neighbourhood boasts lively cafes and restaurants, and the Australian National University is only a two-minute drive away, making it well suited to students, working professionals, or downsizers.

“Turner is one of Canberra’s most central suburbs, wedged between the ANU and the Braddon Precinct, so you can exit and turn left to kill a few brain cells or turn right to grow them,” joked Mr Shearer.

Design and architecture

The journey to create art.haus began with a detailed creative vision and a commitment to making every apartment feel authentic and homely.

“The art.haus creative journey began with a detailed brief, lots of crazy sketches, and a wish list to create a homely, authentic, well-lived-in feel for every apartment—regardless of how many bedrooms were right for a particular owner,” explained Mr Shearer.

Unique elements of the design include large bathrooms with double basin vanities, as well as separate showers and baths in every apartment, which Mr Shearer explained is a unique luxury feature not found in many modern apartments.

“One-bedroom apartments get the same level of luxurious amenity as the largest three-bedroom apartments. That’s not normal,” said Mr Shearer.

The communal and entry spaces were also designed with great care to not only encourage a sense of community but a feeling of ease as the resident walks through the door after a long day.

“I found that very little care goes into how you feel when you arrive at your apartment, with most entry lobbies feeling very commercial and corridors more like a hospital.

So, we threw out the white paint tin and light corporate grey decor and have gone with mood, colour, warmth, and art throughout the common areas,” said Mr Shearer.

The Gallery within the lobby features creative pieces and art installations from local artists, which not only brings the community into the heart of the building but enriches the residents’ lifestyles.

Amenities and facilities

Although art.haus has not included on-site gyms and pools within the development, residents are just steps from the many recreational and wellness options Canberra has on offer.

“Every lifestyle-enhancing amenity you could ever want, whether that’s yoga, the gym, or a red wine in a fantastic restaurant, is a short walk away, so you will be walking a lot more, getting fitter, maybe enjoying a bit nicer wine too,” said Mr Shearer.
